Abstract

One of the active and practical methods for teaching map reading and cartography for undergraduate students is teaching topographic map and digital elevation model. The purpose of this study is to teach the steps of preparing a topographic map and a digital height model. The software used in this research is Google Earth Pro and Arc Map. This research is of practical and educational type. The case study is related to a small part of the Haraz river valley and its surrounding heights in the central Alborz mountain range. Google Earth software was used to prepare the height data of the points, in Arc Map software, to convert the points file into a raster file, an interpolation process was done and after several processes topographic map and DEM of the area were produced. by producing a map; Different map reading techniques, location of points, map guide (Legend), map scale, concept of level lines, height reading from measurement curves, slope display, river valley display, mountain range, measurement on topographic maps and profile drawing, etc. He taught others in a practical way. According to the course headings of map reading and cartography, in addition to the theoretical topics of the course, students learn the process of preparing a topographic map and a digital model of elevation using application software, which is both for their future career and in map preparation. Those who need it for a scientific research paper will be very useful.
