Abstract

During the second Pahlavi period, journals and newspapers served as key tools in public education and training in Iran, and teachers and professors in the field of history and its education published their articles in these journals. The purpose of this study is to explore the findings and issues of teaching history in Iranian schools during the second Pahlavi period, and the main research question is based on what were the challenges and solutions to teaching history in this period from the perspective of the journals? In this regard, 29 articles from 11 journals related to teaching history between 1951 and 1978 were analyzed. The findings showed that lack of attention to the philosophy of history, lack of planning in developing course content, and lack of expertise among teachers were among the main factors in the failure of teaching history. These problems led to students' disinterest in history lessons and a lack of proper understanding of national identity. The journals also presented solutions to improve history teaching and emphasized changing attitudes toward history, emphasizing truth-seeking, impartiality, and the use of educational technologies.
