A study of the content of the high school sociology textbook from the perspective of social science education students at Farhangian University.

Abstract

Textbook content is one of the basic elements of the curriculum. If the selection and organization of textbook content is not done in accordance with the needs of learners and social necessities, it will lead to the failure of the curriculum in the educational system. The aim of this article is to examine the issues and problems of the content of sociology courses in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades of secondary school from the perspective of students of social science education at Farhangian University. The research method is qualitative. Student teachers in the field of social science education at Farhangian University of Amirkabir, entering in 1401, were selected as the research sample. Based on the purposive sampling method, 28 people were determined. The number of samples was determined based on the principle of theoretical saturation. The data collection method was semi-structured interviews and the data analysis method was Thematic analysis. After implementing the interviews, the student teachers' narratives were coded and Thematic organized. Students' experiences of issues related to sociology course content were categorized into five themes: unrelated to social realities, difficult and abstract, ideological bias towards the West, not being practical, and inappropriate supplementary activities.
