Abstract

Background and Objectives: the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of psychosocial empowerment training on improving attitudes toward drug use and social problem-solving skills among adolescents. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population included all tenth grade students in Mallard County, of whom 380 (190 boys and 190 girls) were selected as statistical samples using a multi-stage cluster sampling method. The experimental group underwent psychosocial empowerment training for 11 sessions, and the control group underwent conventional school training. Research data were collected using drug attitude questionnaires and problem-solving ability questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using the analysis of covariance method. Findings: The research findings showed that training in the psychosocial empowerment program significantly increased the attitude towards drug use (f = 22.017, p < 0.01) and social problem-solving skills (f = 10.867, p < 0.01) of students in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Implementing a psychosocial empowerment training program in schools can be used as an effective strategy to improve attitudes towards drug use and social problem-solving skills
